01

Define whether mileage is a ceiling or preference

Ask if the buyer excludes readings above a stated level or is open to a supported trade-off. A mandatory ceiling should not be revised implicitly because the car has attractive features. Use the status evidence review to retain condition and original identity separately.

A later production or registration label does not establish a particular use pattern. Do not infer fleet service or charging behaviour from mileage alone. The fleet-history assessment handles that separate history where relevant, without assuming either label establishes complete servicing.

02

Build a useful timeline

Connect dated service, inspection and relevant records to the actual vehicle. Note gaps and conflicts without guessing an explanation. A current dashboard photograph shows a reading, not the whole supported chronology.

Give the lower-mileage alternative the same evidence standard. Useful records can change the comparison, but should not become a claim of complete history unless supported. Keep production, registration, work and current reading distinguishable so another dealer colleague can understand what the file establishes.

03

Review battery and complete systems independently

The battery assessment guide distinguishes appropriate findings from displayed charge or range. Mileage cannot diagnose a battery or predict a universal remaining life. The whole-vehicle scope keeps body, cabin and other systems in the decision.

For EREV candidates, relevant additional work and support need their own evidence. A good battery result cannot settle every engine-related or other condition question. Retain assessed conclusions and unconfirmed areas. Low mileage likewise should not excuse missing findings or be promoted to a new-car status claim.

04

Compare assessed preparation and support

List immediate work, supplied-item remedies and pending checks beside the amount. Useful documented completed tasks should not be charged again without an assessed need, but old records cannot prove that no current work remains.

Align the quotation stage and ask receiving providers about the actual configuration. Avoid universal maintenance or resale predictions from the reading. A cheaper car with unresolved preparation is not yet equivalent to an accepted finished alternative. Keep confirmed costs distinct from assumptions about future use.

05

Two odometers with unequal evidence

Suppose the higher-mileage offer has relevant dated records and suitable current findings while the lower one supplies only a reading photograph. Request comparable evidence before deciding the latter is superior. The number cannot replace history or inspection.

If the buyer keeps a hard ceiling, respect it regardless of the first candidate's other benefits. If mileage is flexible, record the accepted trade-off and supporting scope. A substitute at a similar reading still needs its own records. The dealer can then explain a specific condition-led choice without guaranteeing future battery life or every later running amount.

For a retained mileage preference, state which evidence would make a higher-reading candidate worth considering. This gives sourcing a practical boundary without authorising an unlimited substitution. Keep a hard ceiling unchanged unless the buyer explicitly revises it, and do not use a positive battery observation to alter the retail customer’s history requirement silently.

Evidence to keep with the decision

  1. State whether the customer's mileage criterion is mandatory or flexible, preserving any explicit revision separately from status and identity so an attractive option or lower amount cannot silently authorise a previously excluded reading.
  2. Build a dated candidate-specific chronology from relevant records, retaining gaps and conflicting entries rather than treating one dashboard image as a complete history or inferring a particular use and charging pattern from mileage alone.
  3. Apply the same evidence standard to a lower-reading alternative, keeping battery assessment methods and limits separate from screen charge or range so the more attractive number is not excused from appropriate condition review.
  4. Retain whole-vehicle and additional-system findings where applicable, connecting qualified assessed work to the actual application instead of predicting remaining battery or component life from odometer or allowing one positive report to settle every system.
  5. Compare completed preparation and receiving support at one delivery stage, recognising useful documented work without assuming it excludes current needs or inventing future running amounts and resale differences from a simple high-versus-low mileage ranking.
  6. Record the accepted trade-off, customer's ceiling and supporting limitations with the selected car, requesting replacement evidence even at a similar reading rather than transferring another unit's chronology or promoting low mileage into verified new status.

Questions buyers ask

Can mileage establish battery health?

No. Suitable battery evidence and assessment scope are separate requirements.

Is the lowest reading always best value?

No. Compare supported condition, records, preparation and the buyer's limits.
